Cellular Phones/Can't connect Android G1 on Vista/XP

Question
We'd like to transfer pictures and music from my wife's Vista desktop to an Android G1 (Dream)but the device doesn't show up as a USB mass storage device. When I go into Device Manager it shows up as a disk drive (HTC Android Phone USB Device).  When I try to change the driver the only compatible hardware shown is disk drive or optical drive if I uncheck the show compatible option.

I've tried to connect the phone to my XP machine but it has the same problem.  On both machines when the phone is connected Windows Explorer displays a drive letter H: (removable disk), F: on my wife's machine, and when you click it a message pops up asking you to insert a disk.

I searched the HTC site for drivers but had no luck.

Thanks

George

Answer
You will need to install software on your PC that will enable you to communicate with your  G1. You should be able to get that either from T-mobile or through a third party. Communicating with a cell phone is not the same as a standard peripheral. You may be better off saving pics to your micro SD card  and then taking that and putting it in an SD adapter and then your should be able to view the picas on your computer and copy them. But without specific software for your device and carrier, you can't communicate with the phone. Hope this helps.
