Cellular Phones/portable phone question

Question
On a portable phone (not cellphone), after a call is ended, is it best to put the phone down on its base, or just on the table? Our calls have been cutting out and the phone co. says it has not been recharging properly or the contacts need cleaning. They said it can affect the entire phone system in our home. What do you suggest?

Answer
If the calls are cutting out, it's likely that the battery is dying. If the phone is more than a couple of years old, you may need to either replace the battery or the phone. If you have a Panasonic phone that you got in the last couple of years, they have standard double A batteries that just need to be replaced periodically. After a call has ended, put the phone back on the base charger. Most cordless phones can't overcharge. Cutting in an out has nothing to do with the contacts needing cleaning nor does it have anything to do with properly recharging the phone and likely has nothing to do with the phone company. How old are the phones and who is the manufacturer?
