Question
i bought a cell at the fleamarket. its an LG phone. it only works half the time because it keeps saying that its searching. and when it does work instead of saying corrwireless across the top(thats who my sservice is through) it says USA-080. what is up w/ this phone? i believe that it is from another country because it has some strange symbols on the keys. sis i get ripped off?!

Answer
Since the device only works occasionally, it leads me to believe that this phone only has one of the two necessary US bands to work and whenever it isn't working, it's because your carrier's network is working on the other band that the phone doesn't work on. If you tell me the model number of the phone, I can validate this for you, but even without it, I would say that's the case. Whenever you get a phone from somewhere other than your wireless carrier, you want me to make sure that it works on the 850 and 1900 GSM bands in the US at minimum. These days with newer phones, they should also work on 700 GSM and HSPA bands of 850 and 1900 and 700 as well. Hope this helps.
