Central/South American History - Costa Rican Flag

Expert: Joshua Holman - 3/28/2000

Question
I am doing a report for my Spanish class on Costa Rica.  One of the things the instructor wants us to include in the report is the SIGNIFICANCE of the Costa Rican flag, like what the colors stand for, or what the stripes symbolize.  I have looked everywhere (books, internet, etc) and can`t find this info.  I`m hoping you can help me.  My report is due Thursday....HELP and Thank you very much.

Answer
Dave,

Here's the flag scoop...
The Red in the flag was added to honor the French Reveloution. The White and blue is thematic of other Central American countries. They all used to be a in a "Cenral American Fedration" whlich was not a sucess, but its legacy lives on in flags.

Good luck!

Josh
