Answer Enrique,
My category is 19th century Mexican History, but I can still help you. The pre-Columbian cultures of Mexico were sort of mixed together and it is sometimes hard to determine when one culture ended and when another began. They more than likely evolved by assimilation, interbreeding, and the general mixing of peoples rather than conquest or takeover. Before the Aztec Empire, the part of central Mexico where Guanajuato is located would have been considered part of the Toltec people. This was from about 900-1200AD. Then it was slowly assimilated by the Chichimecs, most of whom were probably desceneded from the Toltecs, and then after 1500 would have been controlled by the Aztecs. Again, the Aztecs claimed to be descendants of the Toltecs. So you see, it is not so simple. A good site that has a chronological history of this is: http://weber.ucsd.edu/~dkjordan/arch/mexchron.html#LC
You'll see that it is difficult to determine which culture was where and when.
