Question how does Mexico relate to Spain. i heard that Mexicans are half Spanish and half native American. is this true? if not what is the correct roots of Mexicans?
Answer Many people make the mistake of referring to Mexicans as a race or ethnicity, they are neither. The term "Mexican" refers to a nationality, like the term "American".
The belief that Mexicans are half Spanish (European) and half Native American is another error. Back in the 15-16 centuries that was the case, but Mexico became a destination for many immigrants in the 17-19th centuries.
Mexicans today trace their roots to many cultures and nationalities including Irish, German, South American, English, French, African, and Asian.
In many ways, Mexicans are much like Americans in that they are a melting pot of many cultures as we are, with one exception, they have a very large Native population still. The Spanish did not systematically try to wipe out the Natives as the English tried.
