Ceramics/Electric Kiln

Question
I have a Skutt Single Phase electric kiln.  When the building cleaning staff moved it this summer, they broke out some of the "bricks" at the bottom that hold in the elements. Now I have an element that hangs out on the bottom row.   Can I replace just the bricks, or is the entire kiln ruined?

Answer
Hi Wendy, no kiln is not ruined, replace the bricks.

About half way down this page http://www.skutt.com/products/accs.html it shows that bricks are available from Skutt.

The element is damaged though. It will continue to function as long as it doesn't sag to breaking point. Once they have sagged you can't get them back into shape because they go hard. Pushing and pulling on a used hard element will cause it to break.

The best way to check your elements is to turn the klin on and heat for a few seconds, TURN THE KILN OFF AT THE WALL and you will be able to detect heat with your hand, don't burn yourself.
