Question
QUESTION: i have started collecting old potlids and have brought some from ebay only to find they have chips on the flangs they are all varied shades of white so should be easy to match up but what product can i get to fill the chip and what product to glaze ?

ANSWER: Dear Dudley,

There are a few mender products on the market;

one is called APTII. It's used for attaching, mending, repairing & build-up. It doesn't leave any shiny spots after firing & color can adhere to it. Depending on whether your lid is earthenware or porcelain, there are 2 different formulas.

There's also a "Mender by Marx" that can attach 2 piecesof bisque, greenware or even greenware to bisque. You could fill in hairline cracks too with it. Again, depending upon whether your lid is earthenware or highfire, there are 2 different types.

If there's a potter's supplier near you or in your town, they should be able to obtain these products for you. If not, check online.

Answer
Dudley,
There's lots of glazes out there & I'm sure you'll be able to match up your repairs. Try this website, http://www.ccsaonline.com/home.html
look for a ceramics shop in your town. I'm certain if you take your piece in they can help you match the glaze fairly closely. :) good luck,
