Ceramics/Propane Fired Kiln

Question
Hi,

I have just received a raku kiln setup. This setup is basically an old electric kiln that the coils broke and the last owner cut the necessary holes to make it a raku kiln. I want to use it not only for raku firing but also bisque firing (cone 06-04).

I was wondering what aspects should I be concerned about and where to find suitable ramp rates (how fast can I heat it up) for a variety of clays. Or better yet what clay will allow me to use a very fast ramp rate?

Answer
Hi Patrick, a little confused here, talking ramp rates? are you going back to electricity or using gas.
With bisque all clays can be treated the same with heat schedule.
Very fast heat up is a highly groged clay made specifically for raku firing.
