Ceramics/How to make a hand imprint plate using ceramic clay

Question
I need to make a hand imprint plate using ceramic clay.  What is the process to do this and what tools or molds do I need?

Answer
Linda,
Is this for a child or adults hand? Are you hoping to make an imprint into the clay or simply a color handprint? It can be achieved a variety of ways. You can use a bisque-ready plate and paint an individual's hand with either underglaze or glaze and place it down on the plate. If you're wanting an imprint you can do the same process, but spray their hand with WD-40 first, then press their hand into the wet clay. If you're a potter you can first throw the plate or if not, you can pour a plate into a plate mold. They're available from several mold companies. Hope this helps. Leisha
