Question
Hello!
I have been a working with clay full time for the past 13 years and have always wanted to and been asked by customers for much larger pieces.  ie:  a 4 foot tall vase or 4 foot long platter....I find it gets very difficult working with pieces that large with clay and thought possibly molds would be the way to go.  What are your thoughts.  There are no courses available in my city and definitely want to go this direction.  Are there books available....I could possibly travel to a city to find a course...how expensive is it to do this?  Are their alternatives to creating big?  Thank you so much for your help   Teri

Answer
Teri,
Congratulations on being so bold as to try big! I too, just this year attempted some 4' vases! It is difficult! I also sought out molds. I found a great moldmaker who was willing to work with me, Petromolds. They're very experienced, knowledgeable and helpful.

I love this site! They not only have books, you can receive a daily email, watch videos & search out articles on methods.

Another great source is Ceramics Monthly. They feature workshops you can attend all over the world.

Have fun!
