Ceramics/Kiln Sitters

Question
QUESTION: Hi Sam, I recently purchase an older Paragon Kiln which has a kiln sitter on it.  I'm a little confused on the subject of kiln sitters.  All the info I've read on the subject say to put the pyrometric cone "in" the kiln sitter.  I don't understand this as my sitter sits on the outside and the sensor rod sticks into the kiln.  I thought you we're to place the cone under the sensor rod and when it hits the appropriate temp it bends and shuts off the kiln.  well in my kiln the cone sits well below the sensor rod.  Do I have to purchase some kiln furniture so the cone can be place on the right level under the sensing rod or is my kiln missing a part of some kind that I'm not aware of?  Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I'm new to this.  Thanks!   Tim

ANSWER: Hi Tim, Not being able to actually see the kiln is a problem here so I have sent a link to you from the Paragon web site that show kiln furniture. You may have already been there and as you say you have already done a lot of reading.
There may be a possibility that the kiln sitter is not the one that came with the kiln originally if it is as you say an older kiln. So let's start here with the furniture.

Go to the Paragon web site and in the search box type in the 2 words kiln sitter. At the bottom of the page that comes up from the search are manuals in pdf format you can read.
