Ceramics/drilling holes

Question
hello, i have a soap dish in which i would like to drill a hole. is it possible and how.

Answer
Hi, The first thing that comes to mind is a diamond drill. Consider the soap dish as a tile, there are different ways of cutting tiles but none come to mind as being successful at creating holes. The vibration that will be caused when breaking through the other side will enhance the possibility of fracture. If it was me the first place I would visit is a reputable Jeweller, wether the hole is rould, square or oblong will not matter.
The other option is to have a potter make you a new soap dish with hole. let me know how you get on.
