Question
Hi Stephen, thank you for the answer of using engobe.  Do you have a certain recipe for engobe or can one go to "Georgies"(Clay supply store) and buy an engobe for this purpose?

Would or should I use vinegar and engobe? or just a thick slip of the same clay with vinegar.  I used a thick slip, but I wonder what it is about engobe that is working.

thanks again for your help...

Answer
hi

I am away from home at present but i can get u an engobe recipe in a few days. I dont think you can buy engobe pre mixed. but i may be wrong.
engobes shrink less than slip so the liklyhood of getting cracks in the engobe is slim. Only problem is that when you fire engobes high they can turn into glaze I think about 1220C dont quote me.

here is a link US i think http://www.pottery-magic.com/pottery/glazes/recipes/englobes.htm
ingredients vary from country to country.

I wouldnt use vinegar, never seen it work ever. but people still try.
