Question
If I buy a bisque ceramic from a store that just needs to be painted, do I have to fire it after it's painted and glazed?

Answer
Yes it has to be fired again to make the pot impervious to dish-washers, microwaves or the outside elements.

Paint your underglazes on unbisqued, NOT BISQUED.

Fire the unbisqued/greenware painted with underglazes to BISQUE.

Once out of the bisque firing, apply the glaze of your choice and fire to maturity.

WHY? - Because not all underglazes are compatable with the glaze applied on top, fired together. All sorts of glaze faults can occur. If a greenware pot is decorated and then bisque fired the pot becomes whole, its all of the same consistency. The top glaze can then be applied and fired to the maturing temp.
