I recently purchased a wonderful piece from a thrift store
that I would like to know the maker & value of. It is a
really well made lidded cookie type jar in orange, yellow &
brownish tones. It is a heavy piece with a double walled
lid that has a hole in the inner part. On the bottom in
light ink is what looks like two crossed flags with several
letters above but are so light that I can't make them out.
The last two letters look like sa. 21 20 is stamped on the
bottom. The pot is so interesting looking & has such a
quality feeling to it I am curious. Thanks so much for your
help.
Answer Sylvia,
It is wonderful! Aren't thrift stores great?
It appears to be hand thrown stoneware. It was probably done by a regional artist, if not brought to your area by someone who relocated there. Do you have or can you take a photo of the bottom? It is probably the artists' signature.
Try to look up whether your city or region has an artists' or potters guild. They often know the artists' work. You could also check whether there is a ceramic/clay supplier in your area. They've generally been around for years, serviced potters for years and know about their work. If you tell me where you're located I could look up the best supplier to contact. Hope this helps. Leisha
