Question

BELLS
Hi, I recently fired decals at 820degrees celcius on some porcelain bells.....the decals are fine but there is a grey mark all around the base (unglazed section)of the bells that was sitting directly on kiln floor.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Brenda, The porcelain has absorbed impurities on the surface of the kiln shelfs. Paint your kiln shelfs with 3 parts Alumina Hydrate and 1 part Kaolin mixed in water.
Try rubbing the bells on a flat piece of 1200 grit sand paper, lightly. the absorbtion may not be deep.
