Ceramics/antique ceramic glaze

Question
Hi.  I got a set of ceramic bowls at an antique stall at a garage sale.  It just occurred to me that the glaze may not be safe for food.  How can I tell.  There is no indication on the bowls.

Answer
Hi Iris, there is no way to tell what the glaze is made of. A visual inspection is your best indicator now for food safe. Any cracks in the glaze or crazing will make them not safe. If you feel uncomfortable about eating out of them, then don't.
