Ceramics - painting over a painted ceramic

Expert: Leisha Hiester - 6/3/2009

Question
Hello,
I purchased some ceramic bird baths for centerpieces for our wedding.  They have green paint and a clear glaze on them.  I want to paint them white and make them shine what are your suggestions?

Answer
Shanna,
You can try re-glazing them if you have access to a kiln, but you'd first need to ensure they're ceramic. Lot's of bird baths today are made of man-made materials.
You can also just rough up the glaze with rough sandpaper or a sander, paint them white and spray them with a glossy sealer.
Congratulations on your nuptials.
Leisha
