Question
I am an art teacher. Can I fire and use the kiln during pregnancy or is that a big no-no? What non-firing clay would you recommend for sculpture/ceramics? What types of gloves for handling art materials during pregnancy? Many thanks!

Answer
Hi Erin, there should be no problem operating a kiln during pregnancy, naturally every kiln should be in a well ventilated area.

I wouldn't suggest using any non-firing clay for anything except jewellery.

Use the latex gloves like the paramedics use, drug stores or chemists have them. Note that some have powder inside to make them fit easier.
