Question
QUESTION: My mom inherited a bunch of antique china. She is in the process of moving to Denver. We have NO idea if this stuff is valuable or not. She has many pieces. If I send you a photo do you think you can identify it and give us a clue to its value?

If so, please send me an email () and I will email you some photos.

Thanks

Dave

ANSWER: Dave,
I will sure try. Send photos of the pieces and the bottom with any markings. Is it a set or a lot of mis-matches? A set is definitely more valuable than odd lots. The value is also increased if there are no chips or cracks.

QUESTION: Leisha:

Thanks for responding.

The set is complete and I would consider it in excellent condition. I know my mom never used it and the family she inherited it from also never used it. It has always just been on display.

What is your email address? Mine is Dave AT IBuyOldSLots DOT com It appears this web site eats email addresses. Hopefully this address will go through.

If you want, please send me an email and I can zip up the photos and send them to you. I think the bottom of the china says the stuff was made in Austria.

I am also an "Expert" at this site. My area of expertise is around antique slot machines. I assume china is similar to slots. You cannot determine value just by looking at the piece. Value revolves around supply and demand. Especially demand.

ANSWER: Dave,
You can attach photos here and send them.
That's great if the set is complete and excellent condition is a plus. The markings on the bottoms should indicate exactly which pottery they came from and what year. If they're signed, even better. Often signatures were a simple mark. Value with China can be determined by potteries, dates, condition, etc. There are some set values out there similar to a blue book on a car. But, you're right, if no one wishes to purchase at the valued rate, you may wish to wait to sell until the market is better. Is your family hoping to sell this set?
Please send photos.

Answer
Dave,
Where, when will your mom be in Denver? I live near Denver and am returning there shortly. Would love to see her China in person. It appears to be in very good shape and should be insured. I'll do some homework for you. :) Leisha

Dave,
Had to write you back quickly. My earliest work showed a similar pattern; one small plate went for $170-220 at auction! I remind you I am not an antiques expert, however I highly recommend a professional appraisal on your items upon arriving to Denver. Yours may not be worth that much, but definitely worth an appraisal and insuring. :) Leisha

How exciting to own such beautiful pieces.
