Question
I'm interested in designing/making ceramic tile 'art' (the pool industry refers to them as mosaics) to be placed/added to pool surface when plastering.  Is there a certain type of tile that must be used? Where can I purchase what is used to hold the design together (mesh-like product?) Can tiles be broken up to make design like you would by breaking a plate & doing say a table top?

Answer
Tammi,

When I lived in Hawaii, my neighbor worked at her home studio and produced these products full-time. She used the same products I used for pottery with the exception of a 'tile clay' formed especially for tiles.

I'm not sure where to obtain the mesh like product, but your clay supplier may know.

Yes, mosaics are done.

I'd encourage you to study your competition, trends, etc. Look at every site you can find on these products. http://www.digitalpoolart.com/index.htm

Best to you, Leisha

Tammi,
I thought of you when this just arrived in my mailbox! Hope it's helpful. Leisha
