Ceramics - cleaning ceramic molds

Expert: Leisha Hiester - 9/26/2009

Question
I recently poured a casting and forgot to rubberband it more than once so slip leaked all over. Now I have the mold that has a very thin layer of green ware in it and nt to know how to get it out. Is it ok to wash it out with hot water? or something else

Answer
Stacy,
Have you tried re-pouring it? Sometimes the new wet slip will pull away the old and leave a clean mold. That is the best method and worth the loss of a little more slip. You can wash the mold, however ensure it is completely dry again before re-pouring.
Hope this is helpful.
Leisha
