Question

vase 1
I have picked up this neat looking very large vase however I can not seem to find any kind of markings on it, it may have been marked on the bottom but it looks like maybe it got sanded away on the bottom by the maker. It is a 3 handled vase, it stands 12" high, 5.5" across the bottom, and the circumference at its largest point is 30". It is like a white or very light yellow glaze on the bottom then the yellowish gets a little darker, then some brown and black and some other colors in it, I think it looks pretty cool, I was immediately drawn to it. I spent a few hours looking for similiar glaze patterns and colors but couldnt locate a match some I thought were close. If you could give me any kind of information on this piece I would greatly appreciate all your help. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Dear Rich,
Without seeing it or the bottom it's difficult to determine anything about it. Here's what I would do; search for your local potter's guild and/or ceramics supplier. You want one who supplies clay to the local potters. It it was made in your region, generally potters know potters. They will recognize clay used, style, throwing methods, etc. That's a good place to start. If you can't located a supply house, write me back, tell me where you are and I'll supply you with the closest one to you. Hope this helps. Leisha
