Ceramics/Using clear glaze over Astro Gems

Question
I am trying to use up some bottles of Mayco Astro Gem paints.  If I put 3 coats on greenware, can I add a coat of clear glaze to make the item more water proof.  I want to put it outside.

Answer
Dear Shirley,

If your piece if vitrified it should be water proof after firing, however, if you want a gloss finish, in theory it should work to add a clear glaze over an Astro Gem. I've never tried it, but would be interested to hear back what your results were. I would try a test piece first.

I live in a harsh winter climate. I recommend bringing any item in during the winter months. I time mine with my garden, i.e., 1st frost.

Please let me know how it turns out.
