Ceramics/drying time after applying clear coat

Question
Hi I am new to firing.  my student put underglaze on a couple of days ago.  Today i applied the clear coat and put their ware directly into the kiln for a glaze firing.  Should I have waited for the clear coat to dry?  If so, how long should i have waited?  What will happen to the pieces?   Will they be O.K.?

Answer
Sometimes it works and other times it does not. There is a possibility that the clear will peal off the underglazed sections of the pot.
Apply underglaze to the pot FIRST and then bisque fire, then glaze and final firing.

I always wait 1 day to let as much water evaporate from the glaze as possible before firing.
