Question
QUESTION: I am trying to find out who made this platter. It has a signature on the back but only the last name and the state. I would like to find out just who made it. The only "Peterson" that I have been able to find out anything about is "Susan Peterson" but I have not been able to find out how she signed her pieces or even if she did. I can send you a photo of the actual plate if you need it.
Thanks
Linda
ANSWER: Linda,
Where did you obtain the platter? In California? Yes, please send a photo of the platter. Often artists have their own unique style that helps identify them too.

QUESTION: Yes, I bought it in California. At the time I was living in what I call the central coast which consists of San Luis Obispo County. I got it at an antiques %26 collectibles shop which I think was in Cayucos but I am not sure.
Here is a photo of the platter.
Thanks in advance for your help.

AnswerLinda,
What a cool piece. Looks very retro. It appears to possibly have been made by a local artist. I have had good results by contacting a local guild or supplier. Often potters or ceramicists know the other potters/ceramists in the area.
I think Santa Clara might be a good place to start;

The make clay and glazes,are a major supplier, but also do kiln repairs and put on workshops. Sounds like they'll be quite knowledgeable of anyone in the area working in clay. If they've never heard of 'Peterson' ask them if there are local guilds, groups or co-ops you might be able to contact.
Hope this helps. Let me know what you find out.
