I have a bust of a man that is made of what I think is ceramic. Just interested what it represents?

Appears to be ceramic. Often artists create self portraits. Often too, a bust like this is given as an assignment in a course, such as high school art or college courses. Without speaking to the artist and hearing just what he/she had in mind with the representation, it is art that is left up to the viewer's interpretation. Is it old? Where did you obtain it from?
