Ceramics/stilting glazed pieces in kiln

Question
I want to glaze some of my pieces on the bottom and stilt them in my electric kiln.  I fire to Cone 6.  How can I tell if stilts will hold up at Cone 6?  Would it be a wise idea to test stilts before using them with glazed pieces?  Are there specific stilts for specific temperatures?

Answer
Hi Carol, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. All stilts I know of can bend or melt at cone 5 to six.
Better to make your own. What you need is "leanthal wire" which is what the heating elements are made of in your kiln. Kiln makers and pottery suppliers will sell it in meter lengths.
You cut small pieces and set them in stomeware clay. I hand roll out clay and form it into a circle, insert the leanthal wire pieces into it with an 1/8th (2-3mm)sticking out the top. These will not melt and can be reused.
