Ceramics/Buying used Kiln for Guatemala Womans Project

Question
Hi I run a program for the disabled and non disabled in Guatemala.  I want to purchase a used Kiln in RI, where we are loading donations to send in a container. I saw a few listed on craigs list, but I really know nothing about kilns. I am planning on having someone come and teach ceramics to the young ladies. Our power source is the same as the USA.  I want to get something that is in good shape and will last, and has the needed items for use.  What suggestions might you have

Answer
John,
That is great! What a wonderful thing you're doing. There is a supplier (only one) in Rhode Island;

Dew Claw studios  (401)312-0540
545 Pawtucket ave., ste. 106
Pawtucket, RI 02860

They are a full-service clay art center, which means they will have knowledge of kilns and who services them in the area. You may be able to pay one of them or a service person to go with you to look at a used kiln. If you tell them what you're doing it for they may just volunteer. It never hurts to ask. If you're a non-profit they can write it off.

I'd start there. In the meantime, I recall an article I had about what to look for in a used kiln. I'll try to locate it for you also.
