Question

Chipped Cup
Is it possible to repair as small chip in the lip of very nice ceramic coffee cup so that it can be used and cleaned in a dishwasher?

I was thinking that maybe a bit of glaze and then re-firing in a kiln may do the trick.

Answer
Hi Robert, there are many products that you can use to join ceramic material. The problem for you is that the continued heat from use and washing will be detrimental to the piece not coming loose again, and maybe swallowing it. Yes you can stick it back on, No I would not use it again.

The refiring is an option, however the mug looks like it was produced in a 'gas reduction process'. Any refiring without the knowledge of the glaze/clay and firing temp/process could result in a different looking mug.
