Question

Footed Vase
I have a vase that has a very interesting design on the front and back, and also an interesting shape.  It is footed, has an abstract designed front and some what Asian designed back.  I've researched the Internet to no avail.  Could you please assist me with where it originates and who may have designed it.  There are no identifying marks as far as i can tell.  Pictures are attached.

Thank you so much for your kind assistance,
Ramona

Answer
Dear Ramona,

It appears to be hand thrown as you can see some ring marks on the top. Those are made by the potter's fingers when throwing on the wheel. If it were old or from a studio there would generally be a mark. Even most potters sign their work in some way, either by signature or a stamp.

Where did you get it? If it came from an artist in your region someone within the ceramics world may know this style. It is a very distinctive style. Try finding your local ceramics group, co-op or supplier. I have found that potters know other potters. It's a small world.

If you can't locate one, write me back, tell me where you're located and I'll supply you with a few leads. Hope this helps.
