Ceramics/Greenware -bisque

Question
If one modifies a greenware piece & then has it fired, can you then repair any flaw you did not correct the first time & have the item refired? Or will the second greenware not adhere to the bisque?

Answer
Scott,

There are huge changes that occur when greenware is fired. Beginning at about 1650⁰F (900⁰C) the clay particles start a cementing process called sintering. After sintering it is no longer clay but has become ceramic material.

The only way to alter or correct flaws after the 1st firing is through sanding or possibly use of a dremel. You would not be able to adhere additional greenware.

I hope this helps.
