Question
Just got a pot back from glaze firing, & many colours have nearly vanished. Thought about re-glazing with majolica, but need CMC to 'stick' glazes in place until they fuse with previous firing. I have got some CMC but can't remember the ratio of CMC to liquid glaze

Answer
Dear Averil,

Sorry about your firing. It has been the angst of many a ceramicist.

What cone are you firing to? I have had luck re-glazing up to cone 5.

I thin my glaze and apply the first coat very thinly. Allow to dry completely between coats so as to not strip the prior coat.

Here are some basic mixing instructions;
Measure 15 grams of CMC into a pint of hot water. Mix well in blender.
Add this to a gallon of H2O and use 100% in mixing your dry power materials
recipe.
To add to an already liquid glaze; use 45 grams CMC to a quart H2O and add a
generous cup full per 1000 grams of liquid glaze.

Hope this helps. Leisha
