Question
Pottery?
Pottery?
I have what looks like an antique gallon jug, but it doesn't have an opening at the top, but it does have a piece molded to the front of the jug.  The is also a one inch diameter hole on the bottom of the jug on the inside of the molded piece.  Can you tell me what this is?  I sent a photo of the mystery piece of pottery.

Answer
Dear Randy,
What an interesting piece! Stoneware crocks and jugs have such an intriguing history. They were at one time the staple of kitchens, but I suspect this piece may have been used in manufacturing of some type.

Are there any marks on the bottom or near the foot of the piece? I would recommend you consult an expert from this site. They offer it for free. I would love it if you find out what it is exactly, if you write me back.
