Question
Hi,

I have a set of Homer Laughlin China, style eggshell Georgian, dishes.  I have the whole set except for one cup that is missing. I am looking to replace this one cup. When I find the cup that is the match by appearance to mine, there are some different numbers stamped on the bottom. Also, there are some different numbers stamped on different pieces on the bottom of my set as well. For example, the one saucer says M50N5,
What does all the different numbers mean?

Also, what is the proper way to pack and store the dishes so that it does not get stained from the acid from the paper?

Thanks,
Heidi

Answer
Dear Heidi,
Have you tried Replacements.com? They're quite knowledgeable and have a broad range of replacement items. Numbers mean or meant different things at different potteries. I'm not totally up on all that, I'm  more of a clay potter, but I dabble in it. I'm glad to help more if you can't find what you need at Replacements.com.

There are packing kits that are designed specifically for china. They come with special cloths and separators just for that purpose. They've really come down in price. I found mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond, actually.

Hope this helps. Leisha
