How to Cheat On Your Partner/ Deal With Cheaters - Texting and Cheating

Expert: Don - 11/21/2008

Question
I have been with my boyfriend on and off for about 3 years. I have been unhappy for about a year, but I have been trying to make it work for our child. He seems to have no interest in helping me with our son or hanging out with me anymore. Sleeping together is pretty much not happening anymore. However, I have meet someone through a mutual friend and we have been texting each other every day for two weeks and have meet up once, but have only talked and hugged once. He has a girlfriend, but wants to be with me if I leave my boyfriend. I don't know what to do and I am feeling guilty for texting him all of the time. Am I already cheating????

Answer
Texting somebody and hugging them isn't cheating so you haven't crossed the line yet. If you continue to see him and the hugging turns to kissing and the kissing to sex then you will be cheating. For now it just seems like you are talking to a friend.

For the record if you feel this guy makes you happier than your boyfriend and he wants to be with you it might not be a bad idea to go with him. You should never stay in a relationship just because the two of you have a child together. Not being with the father doesn't make him any less of a father to the child. And plus children are more aware of what is going on around then people give him credit. If he feels that his parents aren't happy together it will make the kid unhappy probably more than if his parents were not together.
