Question
I'm about six months pregnant and recently left my fiance when I caught him cheating on me with my best friend (or so I thought...)  The two of them are together now and she's even moved in with him.  To make matters worse, I found out that this has been going on for about three months now (all the while with them racking up MY cell phone bill to tell each other how much they love each other via text message) and clearly I am a little bitter, very angry and very hurt.  However, he still claims that he wants to be involved with the baby and I don't want to stop him (my child shouldn't have to suffer cause hes a jerk).  But I don't want that woman anywhere near my child.  The thought of it bothers me to the point that I have nightmares about her taking her dislike for me out on a baby, and bad mouthing me to my own child as it gets older, ect, ect, ect.  In my opinion she is the reason that my child will never have a normal relationship with her father and I sure as hell don't want her and my baby to become close.  My question is am I being unreasonable?  Maybe I'm letting emotions and hormones interfere with logic, because I don't see how I could possibly keep her from having any contact with the baby at all if the two of them are still together when the time comes.  Do I have a right to tell him who he can or can't have in his house with his child? Probably not... but shes into alot of drugs and other things i wouldn't want around a baby as well, so does that give me a valid reason?  Sorry about the many questions but what it all boils down to is this: Is it reasonable for me to tell him that I don't want her around the baby or am I just being a bitter, hurt, hormone crazed pregnant woman?

Answer
You don't have a right to tell him who to have in his home or who to be in a relationship with but you do have the right to ask him not have certain people around your child, but only if you feel the woman is a real threat to endanger your child and not just because you are bitter because she is with your ex now.

If you have real concerns of her harming your child then you have every right as a parent to ask him not to bring the baby around her or to only let him visit the baby when the baby is with you.

But please only resort to that if you really think she'd hurt the baby and not just because you don't like her because she's with him now.

A baby shouldn't be used as revenge or as blackmail but like I said before if you fear for the safety of your child around this woman, then you have the right to protect your child and ask that she not be around the baby.
