Cheerleading/Flying problems

Question
Hey Kimmi,

This is my first year as a main flyer and I'll have to admit my stretches aren't where they need to be. Two years ago I started out as a flyer, but I stretched my hamstring. Ever since then it has been especially hard to pull front stretches and bow and arrows. I was wondering if you knew any stretches that could help my flexibility without straining my leg again. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Meredith,

When you say you "stretched" your hamstring, I assume you mean you pulled it, as in - injured it. After your muscle heals it will be tighter than it ever was before.
The only thing you can do for this is to stretch it. You should be gently stretching in the front splits as many times a day as possible. And I say "gently" stretching, that means don't push past the point of discomfort. The more you do this, the further you'll be able to go.
Unfortunately, after an injury there's not much else you can do. Your leg may never be the same again. But, you can work hard and try to get back those stretches. Good luck!!

Happy Cheering,
Kimmi
