Question
What is an "A" jump? I'm trying out for my school's cheerleading squad, and it's for seventh grade. The jump requirements are "A" jumps, eagle, and stags (left and right). Could you tell me what those jumps are? And could you maybe give me or request some websites on cheerleading? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Emily,

A jumps are like a level of jumps based on difficulty. Eagles and Stags are both part of the level A. To be honest, I'm not sure what exactly they mean with these jumps. I have never used either. So my advice to you is to search for them on the internet, or better yet grab one of school's cheerleaders and ask her to teach it to you!
Websites that are good for cheerleading - that's hard because there are a ton. Try www.cheerleading.about.com - It's a great site with all kinds of fantastic resources. I also love the message boards on www.varsity.com. Other than that, you can search google and come up with a million great cheer sites out there. Good luck with tryouts!
Happy Cheering!
