Cheerleading/fundraising

Question
My daughter recently quit her cheer team for several reasons that I won't go into. We have participated in several fundraisers and have not used any of the funds in her account. Her coach explained to me that she cannot legally write us a check for the funds, but I'm hoping they can transfer them to the new team she just signed up for. Had her coaches handled several situations better she would still gladly be a part of this team. Have you ever had a situation like this? If not do you have any idea who I should ask about this? Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Renee,

No, I haven't had a situation exactly like this, but a similar one in which non-returnable or refundable things were purchased and the child quit and the parents never paid. Anyway, I digress -
I understand your position, and my question would be why does the coach say she cannot give you the money? Is it a clause in your team contract? Because if it is, then they're not going to transfer the money either. The best advice I can give you is to find out exactly why the money cannot be dispersed, and what other options you have. If you did not sign a contract clause that states some form of "you quit, you don't any refunds", then you are entitled to that money.
Unfortunately, the coach is the one person who is going to be able to give you the information you need. Should that not work, then the next step would be to talk to a lawyer, and you may or may not want to bother with it that far. Hope I've helped in some way. Good luck to you!

Happy Cheering,
