Cheerleading/partner stunting

Questionhi, i'm a sophomore in high school and I want 2 be a college cheerleader but I've noticed most if not all the girls are flyers and I've always been a base or backspot. I wanted to know do u just need to be flexible and the coaches of the teams will teach u how to fly if they think u can or do u have to find someone strong enough to practice with first before you even try out? Also, what are some good stretches to become really flexible?
AnswerYou're right, most collegiate female cheerleaders are flyers. I can think of a few that have all-girls squads. Not sure where you're located but for instance Louisville has an all-girls squad that is nationally recognized, Marshall University's "JV" team is all-girl, and I believe West Virginia University has an all-girls club team that doesn't do sporting events but just competes. How experienced you have to be depends on the school. Most collegiate tryouts I've seen have been pretty competitive when it comes to female flyers but of course like with any other sport depending on the college or university you attend will depend upon how good your competition is. Honestly I wouldnt suggest "just being flexible" and having the coach teach you. I'd have one of your parents contact any all-star gyms in your area, maybe even put up an internet ad or something of the sort and definitely take lessons to partner stunt and learn to become a flyer. As far as stretches it might sounds simplistic but splits, saddles, and just heel stretches on the ground go a great deal if you dot hem over and over and watch yourself in a mirror to see your improvement. It will take time but those definitely work.
