Question
My friend wants to tryout for a cheerleading squad, but she cant really do a cartwheel. What are the tumbling requirements for Grade School Cheerleaders?

Answer
Hi Ashley,

I'm sorry it took me a few days to get back to you.  I think it's awesome that you are concerned for your friend.

Obviously I can't answer with 100% certainty since I do not know your school's specific requirements, but it is safe to say that MOST of the time, grade school cheerleading squads do not have a strict tumbling requirement.  Late grade school is really when girls start learning to tumble, so coaches don't expect you to be able to do too much.  What they look for is potential, girls with good attitudes, girls who try hard, girls who want to learn and girls who love the sport.  I'm sure not having a cartwheel won't keep her from making the squad.

If you are concerned though, I would highly recommend talking to the grade school coach and just asking what the tumbling requirements are for your school.  Coaches are always glad to answer these types of questions.

Best of luck to you!!:)
