Cheerleading/Cheering Jumps

Question
Hi!

I've just started cheerleading, and my jumps, well... kind of suck. :) Do you have any tips that could help me?

Also, the other girls in my squad jump when they bring their arms up for a prep. Is that the correct technique?

Thanks a ton!

Answer
Dont double jump!!! That is what the other girls are doing on your squad when they jump as they bring their arms up. This is incorrect technique and it will take away power when you do your jump.

Some techniques to get higher jumps are to improve on your strength and flexibility. However, you don't need to be super flexible to be able to jump well. If you roll your hips back and sit into your jump it will make your jump alot higher. Chances are when you are jumping now your knees are facing the wall in front of you...well if you can get your knees to face the ceiling when you jump by rolling your hips back it will improve the height of your jumps! Good luck and i hope this helps~!
