Cheerleading/Coaches

Question
Rychele,  I am a new high school coach.  As a high school cheerleader, what do you look for and respect most in a coach?  Thanks!  Tanya, NY

Answer
I look for a coach that knows a lot about cheerleading.  Not necessarily experience, but knowledge about cheerleading.  You should know the difference between jumps and how to do certain stunts.  I respect a coach that is respectful to me and the squad.  I like a coach that is like a president in a democracy, not a coach that is a tyrant.  You should be strict and set rules and consequences from the beginning and stick with them.  But you should also have good consequences.  Never be afraid to ask your squad for help or their opinion.  It sounds like a lot but I think it's worth it if you want to be a good coach that everyone looks up to and respects.  If you have any other questions, just email me.
