Cheerleading/Flyers and splits

Question
I want to be flyer for my cheerleading squad but I weigh a little to much, how can i lose weight to become a flyer? And also what is an easy way to be able to do the splits?

Answer
A common misconception among cheerleaders (and cheerleading coaches for that matter) is that someone needs to be exceptionally tiny in order to be a good flyer.  The main thing a good climber has is excellent body control and good technique when executing a stunt.  If you would like to lose a little weight I recommend eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables (stay away from McDonalds, fried food, and processed foods like chips and Hostess cupcakes).  Also you should engage in aerobic activity 3-4 times a week for at least 30 minutes in order to burn calories.

To answer your second question, please see a previous answer from a poster entitled Splitz.  It should give you a lot of information as well as several exercises/stretches you can do in order to learn the splits.
