Cheerleading/Flying

Question
Hi, I am going to be a sr. in high school, and the capt. of the squad.  After I graduate, I plan on cheering in college.
My Problem is that I am a base on our squad,  but will have to be a flyer in college.  Is there anything that I can do to that will help me be a good flyer now?

 Thank you,
  Jessica

Answer
Jessica, yes there is.  First, you could practice in your own squad. Another thing is to find a gymnastics center somewhere that offers cheerleading or find a male cheerleader that you can practice with, which would probably be the best practice.  I was a flyer, so a few pointers from experience are trust your base, stay tight ("pinch a penny" always helps) focus on something in front of you and never take your eye off of it ( that helps you stay focused and balanced).  You might know from being a base what flyers do wrong, so maybe you could talk to one on specific stunts on what you need to do.  Hope that helps. :)

Expertise

I have been a cheerleader for 9 years. I have been a flyer and can answer any questions about stunting as a flyer. I have also coached an All-Star squad for 3 years, so I can help with anything from jumps, cheers/chants/dancing to stunting and competitions. I have been a tumbler for 6 years, so I can also help with any tumbling tips and suggestions.
