Question
Hi Kimmi!

My name is Erin and I'm looking to start a cheerleading squad in my school, but no one in our school has any experience cheerleading or in dance teams. I don't know how to get a coach, fundraise, hold tryouts, get the principal to approve the idea, or get started at all. Cheerleading is something that I have ALWAYS wanted to do and I am very dedicated to getting this started. It would mean the world to me if you had any advice for me at all. :)

Answer
Hi Erin,

The first thing to do is to find a faculty member at your school willing to be your help in getting the program instated. If you can get it approved by the principal and school board then the next step is to find a coach with at least some experience to get you going. After that, you're coach would spearhead the tryouts, fundraising, etc to the way that she wants the team to be run. But, your biggest hurdle is going to be getting your school to approve it. Before you go to anyone, start talking to your classmates and see how many people would really be interested in participating. If there's only a few, the school most likely will not let the team be formed. If interest is good, you have more of a chance. After you have student interest, talk to your teachers and see how many you can get on your side and then approach the principal. That's about all I can give you...Good Luck!! Please let me know how it goes!
Happy Cheering!
