My school decides who is captain in 3 ways . The first is after try outs have decided who is on the varsity squad  those who have been selected and have been on varsity before have the choice wether or not they would like to be captain. The same judges during tryouts interview them and rate them on their previous tryouts and on their responses to their questions. They will put in order who they think is best for the job and those they find not yet there. From there they are to lead the team in cheers and etc. so the team can judge for their self who is captain material. then voting day comes. Once the coach picks up all the ballets it's her  choice  to decide who  captain based on judges response  evaluation and the final vote of her team. hope this helps.

I was a gymnast for a couple of years. I've been cheerleading my whole life was a varsity cheerleader for Mountain View High School who had received second place in NCA Nationals in 1995 and first place in the Everett Salute to Spirit Dance and Cheer Competition in 2006 and tied for fourth place in state for 2007. I am now at a brand new high school called Union High School. My squad has won 1st place in Washingtons WIAA Salute To Spirit in the small varsity division
