Question
i have my try outs for cheerleading coming up in october- what jumps should i work on?

Answer
CHEERS, Donna!
First of all, good luck with your tryouts! I'm sure you'll do just fine, especially since you are already starting to think about them now. You can't just get great jumps overnight -- they take time and LOTS of practice!
For your tryouts, I would suggest working on the most widely used jump in the sport: the toetouch. This jump shows more of your ability than a herkie, hurdler, or others. Most coaches or judges would rather see this jump than the easier ones. At some tryouts, most of the time the students trying out are asked to do three different jumps. Which jumps you would like to perform is entirely up to you, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. For instance, don't perform a double-nine if it isn't as high as your herkie. Out of these three, though, it may be a good idea to have a toetouch. But other than that, just use the performance of your jumps to show off your talent and ability.
If you would like a better explanation of these different jumps I have mentioned, or information on how to do them, please e-mail me at LHSCheerGirl2002@aol.com, and I would be more than happy to help. Once again, good luck with your tryouts, and let me know how they turned out!

Have a great day, and remember:

Expertise

I have been a cheerleader for over 10 years: All-Stars, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Currently, I am Captain of the Spirit All-Stars, and I`m on my school`s elite Varsity squad. I`ve attended NCA Cheer Camp for the past four years. My coach now is a former NCA Staff member, and she has given me extensive knowledge on the sport and everything about it. I spend, on average, 15-20 hours a week cheerleading. I`m a veteran of competitions and have many tips that can definitely help to improve any cheerleader! I`d be more than happy to offer any help concerning any aspect of the sport.

Experience

My varsity squad has never gotten lower than second place in any competition for the past ten years. This year, we will be attending the Big Apple Classic in the heart of New York City. Two years ago, we took first place at this competition. We look forward to this challenge!
